National Geographic Launches New Series, “The Long Road Home”

National Geographic recently announced the release of the network’s global scripted event series entitled, “The Long Road Home”.  The Long Road Home is based on Martha Raddatz’s New York Times best-seller by the same name and has been adapted by screenwriter Mikko Alanne.
Production on this series began last March in Fort Hood, Texas, and recollects the heroic fight for survival during the Iraq War when the 1st Calvary Division was ambushed on April 4, 2004 in Sadr City, Baghdad, which later became known as “Black Sunday”.
Emmy-nominated actor, Michael Kelly, portrays Lt. Colonial Gary Volesky who is a battalion commander leading a daring rescue when the 1st Calvary Division becomes attacked by Iraqi insurgents.  Jason Ritter appears as Captain Troy Denomy who leads the rescue convoys into the city after the ambush of the 1st Calvary Platoon.  Denomy is a devoted family man with a wife and newborn son.  E.J. Bonilla plays Lt. Shane Aguero who is the leader of the ambushed men.
 National Geographic releases a sneak peek trailer of the network’s global scripted event series, The Long Road Home, based on Martha Raddatz’s New York Times best-seller. Production began in March in Fort Hood, Texas, and relives a heroic fight for survival during the Iraq War when the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas, was ferociously ambushed on April 4, 2004, in Sadr City, Baghdad — a day that became known in military annals as “Black Sunday.” The series will air later this year on National Geographic in 171 countries and 45 languages.
