“God Is Always Listening.”
For those of us that have ever had to wait for God to perform a miracle, or ever doubted that He would, Sunrise In Heaven will speak directly to your soul.
Sunrise from Heaven is based on Jan Hurst’s true-life novel, His Sunrise, My Sunset. It features Corbin Bernsen (Major League, My Daddy Is In Heaven), Caylee Cowan, Travis Burns (Neighbors), Jenn Gotzon Chandler (God’s Country, God’s Not Dead 2), Dee Wallace (E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial) and Erin Bethea (Fireproof, This Is Our Time).
Sunrise In Heaven Synopsis
Sunrise in Heaven begins with an older couple driving in a car discussing how God does miracles. They are looking forward to the future together, and discussing what a time they will have doing anything they want.
It seems idyllic and rosy until they are involved in a head-on car accident. Then plans for their future change drastically.
Wife, Jan, miraculously sustained minor injuries. When told she was fortunate, she comments that it was due to God’s protection. Her husband, Steve, however, wasn’t as fortunate.
Steve sustained a spinal cord injury, and the prognosis wasn’t as good. After he comes out of surgery, Jan and her two adult daughters, Michele and Terri, discover that while he has feeling in his face, his body is quickly deteriorating. He can’t breath on his own, or do anything without the assistance of machinery. This is the moment when Jan must decide between maintaining her hope for a miracle through prayer, or letting Steve go to be home with the Lord.
Through a series of flashbacks from the present day to 1964 when Jan and Steve first met, viewers are taken on a journey of hope. Interwoven into the story is how Jan and Steve first met, and how a miracle turned everything around for the couple despite incredible obstacles.
It shows that miracles can happen over the worst situations, and that God can turn even the bleakest of situations around.
Pros: Sunrise In Heaven is safe to watch for 13+. Not because of any profanity or anything bad, but because it discusses the subject of death. Viewers will see Steve badly injured, his health deteriorating, and the family’s reaction to his condition.
The movie drives home it’s message very effectively with the usage of emotions, and viewers see both miracle and God’s mercy intertwined. For those who have ever waited for a miracle, the movie highlights the very raw emotions that one goes through while waiting, and then are drawn back to the faith aspect.
Cons: There are none. Aside from the mature content, the movie is eloquently done, and beautifully written. Viewers will be drawn in at the start, and taken on a beautiful journey from start to finish.
Overall, I would highly recommend seeing this movie. It is touching, gripping, and simply beautiful from start to finish. It will build up your faith as you realize that God can still do miracles.
